  • Welcome to Lin's 60th Birthday Website!!

Life happens quickly. The days and years fly by while we're busy doing other things and before we know it, the sun has set once more, the season has changed again, or a new year has been ushered in. We need to pay close attention to all of it or we may miss some important times. And, in my opinion, all moments are noteworthy and should be recognized for what they are. All part of the larger tapestry of life.

One such moment for me was my 60th birthday. November 21, 2009. 60 years. Almost 22,000 days! Perhaps not as momentous as 80 years, or as riotous as a 21st, or even as jocular as a 40th, but a milestone nonetheless. At least it felt that way for me. And I didn't want to pass up one more opportunity to celebrate a special occasion. So...I decided I would throw a party!

    A Celebration of Life!

Assembling these photos required more searching and digging around in the attic than I originally anticipated. The resultant trip down Memory Lane was a long one, interspersed with frequent laughter and---surprisingly often---tears. Although it was an exercise I wouldn't want to indulge in again in the near future, I am glad I took the trip this time. After 60 years, I might have actually needed to do it for clarity and even closure.

During this whole process, I was once again reminded of the value of photographs. I was saddened to discover just how few photos I had of me with my mom and even fewer of me with my dad. (Dad was usually busy taking the pictures!) With mom and dad gone now, I realize how we can never really have too many photos of loved ones!

Along that same line of thinking, both dance and ice skating were a large part of my life for many years. After scouring boxes and albums for days, I was very disappointed to find hardly any good photos at all from those eras. To compensate, I've included some stock photos that I think capture the long hours spent over many years at those activities in practice and in performance. After careful consideration, these seem to best represent either a position, a costume or a style (or all three!) from my past.

This website is for your eyes only. Thank you for letting me share something with you that evolved to be so highly personal. Whether you chuckle over photos of phones, family, fashion or hair-dos, I hope you enjoy the trip, too.
